German transmission system operator (TSO) 50Hertz has acquired planning approval selections for the offshore route of the Ostwind 3 grid connection venture within the Baltic Sea. The planning approval refers back to the part within the unique financial zone (EEZ) and the part within the territorial sea, the so-called 12 nautical mile zone.
The Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labor Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has issued the planning approval determination for the cable route inside the territorial waters. The part covers the route from the EEZ to the connecting component between the ocean and land cables on the Vierow Port and is 77.5 kilometres lengthy.
The accountable approval authority, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Company (BHS), has issued the planning approval determination for the part within the EEZ.
The approval covers the cable route from the offshore substation platform and inside the German EEZ with a complete size of roughly 24 kilometres in addition to the development of the offshore substation platform itself.
As well as, 50Hertz is awaiting approval for the roughly four-kilometre-long route on land together with the community connection level, beginning on the connecting component on the Vierow Port to the newly constructed Stilow substation within the municipality of Brünzow.

Ostwind 3 is the grid connection venture of the 300 MW Windanker offshore wind farm within the Baltic Sea, developed by Iberdrola.
The wind farm, for which Iberdrola exercised its step-in-right to the pre-developed website O-1.3 in November 2021, shall be constructed within the space Westlich Adlergrund, north of the working wind farms Wikinger and Arkona that are linked to 50Hertz’s operational grid connection system, Ostwind 1.
The completion of the Ostwind 3 grid connection is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
