Authorities Reviewing Proof From Titan Submersible



Authorities from the U.S., Canada and France are combing by means of proof recovered from the Titan submersible that suffered a catastrophic implosion en path to the wreckage of the Titanic in June.

Investigators from the U.S. Coast Guard, Nationwide Transportation Security Board (NTSB), Transportation Security Board of Canada (TSB) and the French Marine Casualty Investigation Authority (BEAmer) carried out an onsite proof evaluation in Newport, R.I., on November 8, as a part of their respective parallel security investigations.

“This effort underscores the significance of worldwide and interagency coordination in marine casualty investigations,” stated Jason Neubauer, Coast Guard chair for the Titan Marine Board of Investigation (MBI). “Our partnerships with NTSB, TSB and the French Marine Casualty Investigation Authority enabled a radical examination of the worldwide incident, selling security and transparency.”

The MBI will proceed to conduct proof evaluation and witness interviews forward of a public listening to concerning the tragedy. A listening to date has not been introduced.

In June, the Titan imploded whereas on a voyage to go to the Titanic wreck web site, killing all 5 individuals on board. The deep-sea submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions, was found in items on the seabed some 1,600 ft from the bow of the sunken ocean liner. 

U.S. Coast Guard engineers in October recovered remaining particles and presumed human stays from the imploded submersible within the North Atlantic.
