Electrical bikes, seen as an answer for tackling local weather change, have triggered a document variety of fires in New York Metropolis.
Based on figures launched by the New York Hearth Division to Fox Information, e-bikes – powered by lithium-ion batteries – have been answerable for 267 fires within the metropolis.
They claimed 18 lives and triggered 150 accidents, with fatalities rising 200 per cent in 2023.
The newest figures present that gross sales of e-bikes within the US elevated by 269 per cent between 2019 and 2022. It’s estimated that the market was price $2.59 (£2bn) billion by the top of 2023.
They’ve been seen as a means of decarbonising the US and Democratic members of Congress have sponsored laws which might subsidise their buy.
