The Orkney Islands Council’s Improvement and Infrastructure committee has endorsed the offshore plans for the West of Orkney Windfarm, located 30 kilometres west of the Orkney Mainland and 25km north of the Sutherland coast.
The council reviewed the offshore consent utility, expressing assist for the mission.
The windfarm, developed by Corio Technology, TotalEnergies, and Renewable Infrastructure Improvement Group (RIDG), goals to put in as much as 125 generators with a capability of round two gigawatts, focusing on the primary energy supply in 2029.
West of Orkney Windfarm Improvement Supervisor Jack Farnham mentioned: “The Scottish Authorities has a said ambition to deploy 8-11GW of offshore wind in Scottish waters by 2030.
“As the primary ScotWind mission to enter the planning course of, securing well timed offshore consent from the Scottish Authorities and onshore planning permission from The Highland Council might be essential if Scotland is to satisfy this goal, which can unlock vital inward funding and with it financial and social advantages to the far north.”
