Maine’s governor, Janet Mills, has introduced that the state has chosen a piece of Sears Island reserved for port growth as its most popular web site for a facility to assist floating offshore wind.
State-owned Sears Island is a 941-acre parcel off the coast of Searsport. The location chosen for the mission is predicted to be about 100 acres. The proposed port could be a purpose-built facility for fabrication, staging, meeting, upkeep and deployment.
“For greater than two years, my administration has evaluated Sears Island and Mack Level completely and with an open thoughts, recognizing that every web site has its personal set of advantages and its personal set of drawbacks,” says Mills.
“In rigorously contemplating all of those, I imagine that, on stability, Sears Island is your best option for an offshore wind port as a result of it’s already owned by the state, designated for the aim of port growth, will value much less within the short-term and long-term, and is predicted to end in much less environmental hurt.”
Estimated port development value is roughly $500 million.
