South Fork Wind, a three way partnership offshore challenge between Ørsted and Eversource positioned 35 miles east of Montauk Level, N.Y., is now full and sending energy to the New York energy grid.
A dozen generators totaling 132 MW are linked through an offshore substation to the native energy grid in East Hampton, on Lengthy Island. Haugland Vitality Group and Elecnor Hawkeye put in the challenge’s underground duct financial institution and onshore substation, and its onshore cables, respectively. Concrete mattresses have been manufactured by Roman Stone, one other Lengthy Island firm, and upstate New York producer Ljungström fabricated metal elements for the challenge’s foundations.
South Fork Wind’s generators have been staged and assembled at State Pier in New London, Conn. The challenge’s superior basis parts have been accomplished by native union staff at Ørsted and Eversource’s fabrication hub at ProvPort, in Rhode Island. Its crew vessels and crew change helicopter is predicated out of Quonset Level, Rhode Island.
First permitted by the Lengthy Island Energy Authority in 2017, South Fork Wind started development in February 2022, starting with the onshore export cable system. The wind farm reached its “metal within the water” milestone in June 2023 with the set up of the challenge’s first monopile basis. The ultimate turbine was put in in February.
Gov. Kathy Hochul additionally not too long ago introduced two further offshore wind challenge awards, Empire Wind I and Dawn Wind, for over 1.73 GW of wind energy and $2 billion in near-term financial growth investments.
