Avangrid has submitted proposals for New England wind tasks to the Massachusetts-Connecticut-Rhode Island multi-state solicitation for offshore energy.
New England Wind represents two tasks: the 791 MW New England Wind 1 and the 1,080 MW New England Wind 2. The corporate submitted a bid for New England Wind 1, a second bid for New England Wind 1 and a pair of mixed and extra bids for single-state procurements in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
“At this historic turning level for local weather motion, New England Wind solutions the area’s name for tasks that mirror the urgency, ambition and certainty the second calls for,” says Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra.
“In powering up the first-in-the-nation Winery Wind 1 venture, Avangrid proved that American offshore wind is feasible. New England Wind 1 particularly builds on this momentum by providing a shovel-ready venture that’s ready to begin development as quickly as subsequent yr. With almost all native, state and federal permits in hand, all interconnection rights secured, and a Undertaking Labor Settlement signed with a talented, native union workforce, Avangrid is able to go.”
The corporate says New England Wind 1, which might border Winery Wind 1 to the south in federal lease space OCS-A-0534, is shovel-ready and hopes to start development as quickly as subsequent yr, with a watch in the direction of industrial operations in 2029.
New England Wind 2, formally often called Commonwealth Wind, is a part of a mixed bid with New England Wind 1 which might convey 1870 MW to the area.
In February, Avangrid introduced that it had powered up the primary 5 generators for Winery Wind 1, which it says is at the moment offering roughly 68 MW to the New England grid
Avangrid is a member of the Iberdrola Group.
