Leeward Renewable Vitality LLC (LRE) says Verizon Communications Inc. has signed a renewable vitality buy agreements for the GSG Wind venture.
Situated in Lee and Lasalle counties, Illinois, GSG Wind commenced onsite development to repower LRE’s legacy 80 MW wind facility, decommissioning 40 Gamesa G87 2.0 MW wind generators and developing 26 new generators to boost turbine capability, reliability and efficiency.
The venture will create roughly 180 development jobs and is predicted to be operational in December.
GSG Wind interconnects to ComEd’s transmission system in PJM.
At GSG Wind, LRE will recycle or reuse 100% of the wind turbine blades from the decommissioned generators, the corporate notes.
Verizon’s Jim Gowen says the venture “highlights our dedication to defending our planet and enabling a sustainable vitality transition.”
