Romanian power firm TMK Hydroeneregy Energy, belonging to the Evryo Group which, in flip, is a subsidiary of the Czech energy utility CEZ, has launched in collaboration with Innovation Norway the primary large-scale floating photovoltaic power system in Romania.

The system has a capability of 1 MW and is situated within the lily pond of Lake Grebla, in Caras Severin county, subsequent to the 22 MW Grebla hydroelectric plant, which is owned and operated by CEZ itself.

The floating PV system will generate energy for the inner consumption of the hydroelectric plant. “It’s a pilot challenge that we imagine will show its effectiveness and we need to replicate,” stated Liviu Gavrila, Common Director of Technology at Evryo.

In response to the newest statistics from IRENA, Romania had 1,414 MW of photovoltaics put in on the finish of 2023.

The Romanian authorities plans to generate 36% of Romania’s power from renewables by 2030. The nation’s first renewables public sale below a contract-for-difference scheme is forthcoming.
