On October 17, 2023, the Minister of Surroundings and Protected Areas, Rebecca Schulz, introduced the Rising Innovators Problem (EIC) along with Emissions Discount Alberta (ERA) CEO Justin Riemer. The EIC will administer $40 million to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in addition to Indigenous communities scale-up, pilot, and reveal first-of-a-kind tasks that improve emissions discount.
