Kraken Robotics Secures Order For Aquapix MINSAS System

Canadian marine robotics specialist Kraken Robotics has acquired an preliminary order for its AquaPix Miniature Artificial Aperture Sonar (MINSAS) System for HII’s new REMUS 620 Medium Class UUV.

“Artificial Aperture Sonar is rapidly turning into the software of alternative for mine countermeasure (MCM) operations on account of its considerably elevated decision and better space protection charges in comparison with legacy facet scan sonar,” Kraken Robotics stated.

This order is valued at $1 million and can be fulfilled in 2024.

The tip customers of those new REMUS 620 programs with Kraken MINSAS are groups led by NOAA working to establish areas of deep water corals and different delicate habitats for restoration actions following the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.

“Over the past yr, Kraken has been working with NOAA’s Nationwide Facilities for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) to combine and deploy a MINSAS 120 system on a legacy REMUS 600 and to conduct high-resolution habitat mapping. Mapping these habitats straight by way of the high-resolution Artificial Aperture Sonar (SAS) information drastically will increase effectivity over conventional ROV surveys,” Kraken Robotics stated.
