A totally loaded container barge that broke unfastened and struck a pier in downtown Seattle has been towed to security.
The U.S. Coast Guard stated it was notified at 1:25 p.m. on Thursday that the barge had damaged unfastened from Terminal 18 and went adrift in Elliot Bay.
The barge, owned by Lyden’s Alaska Marine Traces, was drifting towards the Nice Wheel and the Seattle Aquarium when it was intercepted by a King County Water Taxi vessel, Doc Maynard, which used its bow to push the barge north in an try to stop an allision.
The barge finally struck Pier 66, inflicting landside injury. No accidents or air pollution have been reported.
Three tugboats obtained management of the barge and positioned it in tow for transport to Terminal 115.
The reason for the incident is beneath investigation.Â
