Wildstone Development Group and SkyFire Power have marked the opening of Summerland, British Columbia’s first utility-scale photo voltaic facility.
Summerland is one among 5 municipalities within the province to personal its electrical utility, permitting the group to maintain cash within the native financial system and improve the resiliency of the ability grid, says Wildstone.
The mission utilized 80% native development labor and Canadian-based manufacturing for the photo voltaic PV racking and the battery power storage system. The power was secured utilizing a geo-ballast system that anchors the array to the bottom using native boulders and rocks, serving to to reduce the mission’s carbon depth.
The Summerland Photo voltaic+Storage Facility includes a battery power storage system able to grid forming, peak shaving and ancillary providers, says Wildstone. That is meant to remove short-term demand spikes and decrease peak hundreds, lowering total demand prices. The mission’s management technique was tailor-made for integration into the microgrid management system.
“On behalf of the Wildstone/Skyfire Joint Enterprise crew, it has been an honor to work with the District of Summerland and ATCO within the improvement, design, and development of the Summerland Photo voltaic+Storage Venture,” says Matt Simard, Wildstone’s director of company improvement.
“It has been an thrilling journey to be part of this mission. I first sat in on the funding announcement presentation again in 2018. So, to have the chance to truly construct this thrilling mission is fairly particular,” provides SkyFire Power’s Landon Aldridge.

The multi-phased mission was a three way partnership between Wildstone Development Group and Skyfire Power. Battery elements got here from EVLO Power Storage, a subsidiary of Hydro Quebec. Civil development was accomplished by Okanagan-based contractor Chute Creek, and electrical interconnection and controls have been accomplished by Penticton-based firm Struthers Technical Options Ltd.
