Damen Shipyards Launches 100% Electrical Service Operations Vessel






Damen Shipyards Group has launched a completely electrical service operations vessel with offshore charging capabilities.

Damen partnered with U.Ok.-based MJR Energy & Automation to realize offshore charging. The charging system makes use of the motion-compensated gangway to create a connection between the vessel and a turbine or substation offshore. 

MJR developed a 4 MW charger connector for the challenge, adequate for a 70-meter vessel. The corporate can be engaged on a scaled-up 8 MW model that can allow charging of vessels as much as 90 meters.

“The charging system is designed to be protected, handy and dependable, with speedy connection and disconnection of the cost umbilical,” says MJR’s Paul Cairns.

Charging from an offshore asset represents optimum practicality, offering a method to cut back prices and emissions and optimize effectivity with out putting personnel nor infrastructure in a probably hazardous state of affairs.”

The vessel supplies 60 cabins for crew and as much as 40 technicians.
