After contractor NRG’s electrical drill arrived on the ‘Een Zee van Staal’ sculpture park work web site this week, the primary underground directional drilling in direction of the work web site at Tata Metal will begin at present. Over the subsequent two weeks, contractor NRG will make the primary two (of six) boreholes for the connection of the wind farm Hollandse Kust (west Beta) by TenneT.
Each boreholes have a size of 1,200 metres, in accordance with contractor NRG‘s venture supervisor Johannes Becker. “We begin with a so-called pilot borehole with a diameter of 35 centimetres from one working space to the opposite. Then we enlarge that borehole with a ‘reamer’ to a diameter of 95 centimetres. For the third and last step, we pull a strand of 4 plastic casing tubes into the borehole.”
Casing tubes
Within the 4 boreholes, that are made behind the dunes close to Velsen in direction of the transformer station in Wijk aan Zee, 4 casing tubes are drawn per gap. These will ultimately home the electrical energy cables. Of the 2 sea cables that come ashore by way of the seaside, the three cores (or phases) are cut up on the work web site within the Sculpture Park. Becker: “Then every sea cable continues on land as three separate electrical energy cables and a fibre-optic connection.”
Via bike container
These casing tubes have now been welded and laid out. For that reason, our contractor NRG has already began clearing the 2 welding areas alongside Nieuwe Zeeweg and Drijverweg. Becker: “The second we begin pulling within the casing pipes, we’ll place a bike owner container on the cycle path close to Reyndersweg in order that walkers and cyclists aren’t inconvenienced.”
Sandcastle
Now that the 2 withdrawal pits on the raised work web site on Velsen seaside have additionally been realised, the short-term sand fortress is prepared for use for the deliberate drilling below the dunes. These are wanted for the landfall of the ocean cables that can quickly be linked to the land cables underground behind the dunes.
Two occasions three drillings
A complete of two occasions three underground borings of about one kilometre in size will likely be carried out. The primary two drillings run from the seaside below the dunes to the Sculpture Park. From there, the underground connection follows to the Tata Metal web site. The final sequence of boreholes comes out on the transformer station in Wijk aan Zee.
