Rio Tinto’s Diavik Diamond Mine has accomplished set up of its 3.5 MW, 6,620 panel solar energy plant in Canada’s Northwest Territories.
Development started in February, contracted to Whitehorse-based Solvest, and the Indigenous-owned Tłıchǫ Funding, with assist from Diavik.
The ability is ready to supply 25% of Diavik’s electrical energy throughout closure work, with industrial manufacturing anticipated to finish in 2026 and closure to run till 2029. The ability is supplied with bi-facial panels.

The venture was supported by funding from the Authorities of the Northwest Territories’ Giant Emitters GHG Decreasing Funding Grant Program.
