Thales To Equip Polish Navy’s MIECZNIK Frigates With

Thales stated Thursday it could equip the Polish Navy MIECZNIK (Swordfish) frigates with the TACTICOS fight administration system, sonars, infrared sensor, and radars, offering the warships with a number of capabilities for detection, identification, command and management, and decision-making.

The primary ship is anticipated to enter service in 2029 via a strategic program, which includes a cooperation settlement between Thales and the PGZ-MIECZNIK Consortium (lead by Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa).

Designed to hold out a variety of duties at sea, together with, amongst others, securing sea strains of communication and demanding infrastructure, the multi-role frigates of the MIECZNIK class will considerably improve the capabilities of the Polish Navy and be an essential contribution of Poland throughout the North Atlantic Alliance. These vessels will likely be outfitted with a set of sensors developed by Thales and built-in with the warship’s fight system.

Thales stated its fight administration system TACTICOS could be the central command and decision-making ingredient of the frigate fight system.

Its perform and efficiency – supporting sensor management, image compilation, state of affairs evaluation, motion assist, and weapon management – are essential to the operational effectiveness of a naval vessel.

Poland’s MIECZNIK frigates will depend on a whole Thales sonar suite comprising the BlueHunter hull-mounted sonar and the Captas-2 towed-array sonar offering a multi-sensor evaluation of the general underwater state of affairs.

As well as, Thales will present two radars, the SM400 Block 2 and the NS50. The SM400 radar, a multifunction S-Band radar, is designed to concurrently present long-range air and floor surveillance, helicopter management and weapon management capabilities at a variety as much as 400 km. The NS50 radar, along with TSA 6000 IFF interrogator, presents a further layer of safety, offering superior air and floor detection, monitoring and classification. The frigates can even be outfitted with ARTEMIS, a 360° naval infrared search and monitor system, and the STIR 1.2 EO Mk2 hearth management radar.

“With the assist of the UK Authorities and dealing along with Babcock and MBDA, Thales will put key learnings from the Sort 31 program within the UK into good use to scale back threat and ease the trail to vessel acceptance. Furthermore, Thales will contribute to consolidating Poland’s native protection trade by working with the PGZ-MIECZNIK Consortium and different Polish trade actors,” Thales stated.
