One of many wind generators in Hermanville, P.E.I., had two of its blades fully torn off as highly effective winds raged throughout the province this week.
The tower of the turbine generally known as Tower 9 can be broken, and employees with the Division of Atmosphere, Power and Local weather Motion are investigating.
“Nordex has secured the world and there’s no threat to the general public,” a spokesperson advised CBC Information on Friday. “The complete extent of the damages to the turbine aren’t generally known as this time.”
The division says the turbine was not working on the time of the incident, and had been scheduled for repairs within the spring of 2024.
Atmosphere Canada put Prince Edward Island below wind warnings twice this week. A gust of 93 km/h was recorded Thursday at East Level, a brief distance from the wind farm.
As a result of the turbine wasn’t working, the blades have been stationary and couldn’t transfer with the wind, so that they have been fully ripped off.
Division employees say they’re assured insurance coverage will cowl the damages.
