VIDEO: BMT unveils new EF-500 all-electric ferry

Unveiled on the Worldwide Workboat Present this week, the newest addition to ship designer BMT’s portfolio is a brand new all-electric ferry, the EF-500.

With a size of 42 meters, a molded beam of 12 meters and a design draft of 1.6 meters, the EF-500 has a capability for 500 passengers and 4 crew. The low wake catamaran hull options what BMT describes as a “easy, simply constructible design with a light-weight and sturdy aluminum construction.”

Powered by two 770 kW electrical motors and with a battery capability of two,200 kWh, its capabilities embody a variety of 1 hour at 18 knots or 40 minutes at a prime velocity of 20 knots.
