DU will make the most of renewable power generated by photo voltaic installations owned and operated by Pivot Power, permitting the college to offset complete campus electrical energy consumption with clear solar energy, serving to pave the way in which to its carbon neutrality purpose. In 2008 DU was one of many first universities to hitch the American Faculty and College Presidents’ Local weather Dedication to succeed in carbon neutrality. Thus far, fewer than 24 faculties and universities have achieved carbon neutrality.

Pivot Power will develop seven tasks in complete. The 1.2-MW on-site photo voltaic system will likely be situated on the Ritchie Middle, rising on-site clear power to 10% of the college’s power consumption. That is an growth of DU’s 2019 photo voltaic set up venture with Pivot on 18 totally different buildings that totaled 2.2 MW.

As well as, there will likely be six off-site internet metering photo voltaic tasks totaling 22.2 MW that may produce sufficient clear power to remove 100% of scope two greenhouse gasoline emissions enabling DU to scale back half of its carbon footprint. The tasks will likely be situated in Larimer, Adams, Mesa and Weld Counties and can take 24-36 months to finish. Afterwards, they are going to be used for scholar studying to offer further pathways to advance the clear power workforce of the longer term.

“The college’s purpose of attaining carbon neutrality will likely be achieved by means of our relentless dedication to construct a greater world and a greater future for our college students,” says DU Chancellor Jeremy Haefner. “After I was inaugurated chancellor at DU, I made the pledge to succeed in carbon neutrality by 2030. I’m thrilled to proceed our partnership with Pivot Power to work in the direction of attaining this purpose.”

“Pivot Power is thrilled to proceed its partnership with DU to assist advance their clear power purpose,” says Mat Elmore, SVP of Strategic Accounts at Pivot Power. “By using on-campus photo voltaic installations and off-site internet metering photo voltaic tasks, DU is establishing itself as the next schooling establishment main the way in which in sustainability and advancing the clear power workforce.”

In 2021, legislative leaders, together with Colorado Senate President Steve Fenberg, handed Senate Invoice 261, which created an off-site internet metering program to allow extra versatile entry for purchasers curious about putting in photo voltaic to offset their power use.
