Directional Drilling kicks off in Paka Prospect

Weblog Newest Information

The drilling of the first directional well in the Paka Prospect commenced on Monday, January 17, 2022.

The well, christened Paka Well 3 A (PW-03A), is the first well in the production drilling phase within the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project. PW-03A is undergoing development on the same PW-03, which was drilled during the exploration phase.

The commencement of drilling comes after the successful rig move and eventual rig up from Korosi Well 3 (KW-03) to the current location (PW-03) by the Drilling Planning and Logistics, Drilling Operations and Drilling Equipment and Maintenance teams.

“The drilling of PW-03A is a welcome development as it adds to our portfolio of wells currently at the drilling stage in the Baringo Silali Geothermal Project, which has been confirmed scientifically as viable for production drilling,” said Eng. Stephen Kangogo Principal Officer, Drilling Operations.

The team at the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project has drilled 3 wells in Korosi and 5 wells in Paka.

GDC intends to develop 100 MW from three prospects Paka, Korosi and Silali for the first phase of the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project. The development of the Paka prospect is now at the production drilling phase.
