  • Based mostly on evaluation in our most up-to-date U.S. Power-Associated Carbon Dioxide Emissions report, U.S. energy-related CO2 emissions decreased by 3%, about 134 million metric tons (MMmt), in 2023.
  • Over 80% of the emissions reductions occurred within the electrical energy sector, induced largely by decreased coal-fired electrical energy era, which was displaced by elevated era from photo voltaic and pure gasoline. Electrical energy sector emissions decreased to about 1,425 MMmt in 2023, about 7% lower than in 2022.
  • Emissions additionally decreased within the residential and business sectors by a mixed 6% in 2023, to about 561 MMmt, attributable to milder climate resulting in much less power demand for house heating and cooling in buildings.
  • Emissions from the commercial and transportation sectors remained comparatively unchanged, with variations of lower than 1% from 2022.
